Here is another testimonial on the effectiveness of titanium shims from a gent who tracks his Corvette:
"About a year ago, I purchased a set of titanium backing plates for use on one of my other cars for the track. I started out using the brakes WITHOUT the backing plates and my dust boots and fluid were both toasted after only one event. After installing the Ti shields (which sit between the brake pad and the caliper pistons) and attending several more (at least 6, maybe as many as 10) track events, the dust boots were in LIKE NEW condition and the fluid always came out pretty clear instead of blackened like before."

I was able to induce a bit of pad fade, but only if I did several hard laps in a row, and even when the pad was faded, the pedal was hard. Since I run Time Trials, I generally do a warmup lap, and then alternate hard laps and cooldown laps. Doing this I did not have any brake issues! I would consider these to have been a success. This was the first time in many events that I haven't blown up either a set of pads, a set of rotors, or both."
